This is an old Amish recipe. I think it taste better than the store bought mixes. It taste great warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
3 Tablespoons cornstarch
1/3 cup plus 1 Tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 Tablespoons cocoa powder
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Mix dry ingredients well. In a saucepan heat 1 1/2 cups milk. Add other 1/2 cup milk to the dry ingredients and stir until smooth. When the milk is hot, stir in the dampened dry ingredients. Stir constantly over heat until the mixture thickens and comes to a gentle boil (it should not boil vigorously). Remove from heat and serve either warm or cold. Makes 4-6 servings.
